A sky sphere is a CGI object used to provide realistic-looking backgrounds for imaginary outdoor scenes. They can be manipulated, however, to provide wildly improbable surrealistic effects. Here, I used gradient-pattern effects, originally provided to create realistic variation of background sky color, to generate a background consisting of multi-colored stripes with a broad palette. Reflections in the chrome surfaces of the two cones create a beautiful, surprising, multicolored pattern that enhances the surrealistic experience of seeing "real" objects arranged in an imaginary space with no gravitational field.
